Start Your Morning with a Cozy Cup of Cacao

Updated: Feb 11

This month in Wild & Well: Aromatherapy Insights & Self-Care Spotlight, we’re diving into the magic of cacao—and I have to tell you about my latest morning obsession! I’ve been trying to cut back on coffee (because that midmorning crash is no joke), and making the switch to cacao has been an absolute game-changer. These last few days it has given me a smooth, steady energy without the jitters, and I actually felt motivated and focused throughout the day. Plus, I didn’t feel nearly as overwhelmed—which, let’s be real, is a huge win when you have five kids under the age of seven running around!

I first came across this delicious cacao recipe on Ayurveda with Rebecca, and I knew I had to give it a try. Her approach to wellness and Ayurveda is so inspiring, and this recipe fits right in with the idea of nourishing your body while supporting your energy naturally. I’ve linked her website at the end of the blog so you can check out the original recipe and explore more of her amazing insights!

It took me a little time to track down the right 100% cacao baking bar—there aren’t exactly a ton of options nearby where I can just run to the store and grab one and yes, I could have just ordered one but honestly, I was so eager to try this recipe I didn't want to wait. So o

f course, you don’t have to use 100% cacao, that’s just what I preferred. I thought about using cacao powder since it’s easier to find, but I was worried it might make the drink a bit gritty. Luckily, I found a store about 30 minutes away that had it in stock and let me tell you—it was worth the trip! This recipe was so easy to make, and it turned out rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious—definitely something we’ll be making again!

Rich & Creamy Morning Cacao Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (or 20 grams) of 100% cacao baking bar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons maple syrup

  • Pinch of sea salt (original recipe calls for Himalayan pink salt)

  • Pinch of ground ginger (not in the original recipe)

How to Make It:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the milk and water over low to medium heat.

  2. Add the cacao baking bar, stirring continuously until fully melted—be careful not to let it boil.

  3. Stir in the maple syrup, sea salt, and ginger, letting everything blend together.

  4. Pour into your favorite mug, take a deep breath, and enjoy this cozy little moment just for you.

A Must-Try Morning Ritual

This cacao recipe was husband-approved, and next, I’ll have to see how my girls like it! As a homeschooling mom, it also has me wondering—could this help them focus more during lessons? Because let’s be real, whether kids are in a traditional school setting or learning at home, staying focused isn’t exactly their strong suit. The combination of cacao, maple syrup, and ginger created the perfect balance of earthy richness and subtle sweetness, and I love that it gives me energy without the crash. If this could help my girls stay more engaged during school time, we might just have a new morning must-have!
