Crafting Magnesium Spray with Hand-Distilled Hydrosols: A Natural Remedy for Restless Legs and More

If you’ve ever struggled with restless legs, muscle cramps, or trouble sleeping, you know how frustrating it can be to find a solution that actually works. I’ve been there—tossing and turning at night, desperate for relief. That’s what led me to create my own magnesium spray—using not just any ingredients, but high-quality magnesium chloride combined with hydrosols that we distill ourselves. The result? A simple, natural remedy that has truly changed my life.

How It’s Changed My Life

Before I go on to tell you more about magnesium, its benefits, and how it pairs beautifully with hydrosols, I wanted to share my personal experience with magnesium spray and how it has truly helped me.

I started using this magnesium spray every night before bed, and the difference has been incredible. Because of my anemia, I used to wake up from extreme charlie horses in my calves—painful, jolting cramps that felt like they lasted forever. In those moments, I’d reach for the magnesium spray on my nightstand, spritz a few times onto the tight muscle, and wait. Within seconds (which always felt like an eternity when in discomfort), the pain would ease, and I could finally relax. On top of that, my restless leg syndrome, which used to keep me tossing and turning for hours, has dramatically improved. Now, I sleep deeper, wake up feeling more refreshed, and even notice a sense of overall calm from regular magnesium use. This spray has truly become a must-have in my nightly routine!

Why Magnesium?

Magnesium is an essential mineral that our bodies need for hundreds of functions, from muscle relaxation to nerve health and even better sleep. Unfortunately, many of us are deficient in it, thanks to depleted soil and modern diets. While you can take magnesium supplements, applying it topically through a spray allows for fast absorption—no digestion required!

The Magic of Hydrosols

Rather than making a basic magnesium spray with just water, I love to elevate mine with hydrosols—gentle, aromatic waters that are a natural byproduct of essential oil distillation. Since we distill our own hydrosols, I get to use fresh, high-quality plant extracts that add an extra therapeutic boost.

I choose hydrosols over essential oils for a few key reasons:

1️⃣ Subtle, Balanced Aroma – Unlike essential oils, hydrosols offer a softer, more delicate scent that isn't overpowering, making them perfect for a refreshing yet calming experience.

2️⃣ Skin-Friendly & Non-Irritating – Hydrosols are naturally water-based, so there’s no concern about skin sensitivity like with essential oils, which can sometimes cause irritation. Even when essential oils are shaken into a magnesium solution, trace amounts of undiluted oil can remain, increasing the risk of skin discomfort. Hydrosols blend seamlessly, making them the gentler choice.

Here are two of my favorites:

🌿 Peppermint Hydrosol – Cooling, refreshing, and excellent for soothing tired muscles while promoting circulation.

🌾 Goldenrod Hydrosol – Valued for its ability to ease discomfort and support muscle recovery, goldenrod is fantastic for relieving tension and promoting relaxation.

These hydrosols not only enhance the benefits of magnesium spray but also add a gentle, earthy aroma that makes the whole experience even more soothing. Once you try it, you’ll see why I can’t go without them!
